Fall Maintenance for Upcoming Baseball + Softball Seasons

With the start of another school year there is an understandable focus on fall sports like football and the facilities they utilize, but now is also a critical time to focus on maintenance for your spring sports facilities like baseball and softball.  Proactive planning now will allow ample time for procurement and scheduling of the work so your fields are ready when practice starts and you can avoid conflicts with your practice schedule to get critical repair work done.

Whether your fields are natural grass or synthetic turf, we have compiled a list of items to review now for your baseball and softball season ahead.

  • Repair or rebuild mounds and home plate areas (as needed)
  • Remediate lips
  • Add infield clay & conditioner (as needed)
  • Re-align bases
  • Check irrigation system
  • Overseed (if needed)
  • Apply pre & post emergent depending on overseeding practices

SYNTHETIC TURF

Those with turf baseball and softball fields are familiar with the term “high wear area” – these are commonly the pitching mound or circle, home plate boxes, and bullpens but can also include the bases.  While routine grooming practices should be resumed with the return to school, here are some additional items that may require outside help ahead of season:

  • Repair or replacement of high-wear areas
  • Pitching mound / circle
  • Home plate boxes
  • Bullpens
  • Spot dressing high-traffic areas around bases
  • Flip pitching rubber
  • Seam repairs throughout field

If the infill is displaced or the turf is worn-out in your high-wear areas, reach out to schedule a replacement service and go into your spring season confident in your surface.
