When The Hockaday School in Dallas set out for a comprehensive, wide-ranging renovation of their athletic facilities this year, they chose Paragon Sports Constructors to build four new sports fields and an IAAF quality running track for their student athletes. Working with Moss Construction as the general contractor, Paragon Sports provided the Daisies two synthetic turf fields, a sand-based natural grass multipurpose field, natural grass softball field, and 8-lane running track with field events while also handling additional site amenities including, netting, backstops, batting cages, and track and field equipment.
Synthetic Turf Multipurpose Fields
Featuring field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer lines, both synthetic turf fields at The Hockaday School serve various uses for its student athletes. Both fields encompass a flat panel drain system under a Brock SP 17 pad, Shaw Sports Turf’s Legion NXT turf, and BrockFill infill.
Full-Pour Track System
The Hockaday School selected a Paragon Track Surfaces classic full-pour system for their running track and field events. The high performance and durable surface features three full-pour layers, ideal for year-round, frequent use. PSC constructed the track turn-key, installing the concrete curbs, flexbase, asphalt, and drainage, in addition to surfacing the track. Natural Grass Athletic Fields
The newly renovated athletic facility includes two natural grass fields, a sand-based competition soccer and lacrosse field and a new softball field. To ensure proper drainage of the natural grass fields, a field collector system with piping and liner was installed and backfilled with drainage stone. Both fields feature a slit drain system, where drain lines are closer together, shallower, and bi-directional, helping the field drain quicker and more evenly compared to a traditional pea gravel system. Latitude 36 bermudagrass was installed at both fields, a top-rated bermudagrass popular for its use on college and professional sports fields. After installation, the natural grass team at Paragon Sports maintained the sod for 60 days, managing the grow-in period, and ensuring a pristine product for the Hockaday School athletes.
