Serving approximately 105,000 students, Northside Independent School District in San Antonio is one of the largest in the state of Texas. In 2020 the district selected Paragon Sports Constructors to convert the natural grass practice fields at Brandeis, Clark, and O’Connor High Schools to synthetic turf and renovate the surrounding running tracks at each campus. Upon completion of those projects, PSC was selected in 2021 to replace the turf at Dub Farris Stadium. Executive Director of Athletics, Stan Laing, shares his insights and experience on the projects.
DRIVING FORCE
“The driving force behind each of our projects when it comes to facilities is our desire to create the most conducive and safe learning environment for our student athletes to compete on and our coaches to coach on. With just over 15,000 participating in athletics, it is imperative to work with a team like PSC to ensure we can adequately serve as many programs as possible. The fields just completed by PSC will do just that for football, soccer, baseball, softball, and track in addition to our band, spirit, JROTC, and PE programs as well as our community.”

PROJECT DETAILS
All three high school campuses feature Shaw Sports Turf Powerblade Pro synthetic turf with sand and rubber infill. They were installed over new paved-in-place elayer pads on top of vertically draining stone base drainage systems. The running tracks at Clark and O’Connor high schools feature Paragon Track Surfaces PTS 3000 impermeable structural spray system while the track at Brandeis High School received a PTS 4000 sandwich system. Paragon Sports Constructors performed all work turn-key.
